Dr Steve Taylor is a General Dental Practitioner with a special interest in aesthetic implants, endodontic treatments (root canals) and high quality cosmetic dentistry.

Steve has been a practitioner in Solihull for over 20 years and established his own premier dental practice in Solihull, Squirrels Dental Practice, prior to its acquisition by the J D Hull group in 2008 and amalgamating with the Manor Road Dental Surgery. Squirrels Dental Practice was the first practice in the West Midlands to be awarded the Investor in People Award in 1999. Steve also has a special interest in treating anxious patients and was awarded the Most Child Friendly Dentist of the Year by Fisher Price in 2006.

Steve qualified from University College of London in December 1985 winning the Cyril De Vere award as the most outstanding student in Oral Surgery and Restorative Dentistry and also the Sheer Award for Prosthetic Dentistry. On graduation he re-joined the Royal Air Force where he worked a dental officer in both the United Kingdom and Germany. Steve spent a further 5 years in the Royal Air Force at which time he was offered a MSc in restorative dentistry. In 1990 he graduated in the Gold Standard Examination of General Practice and achieved the MGDS diploma for the Royal College of Surgeons, England from which he has completed the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners career pathway and was awarded the Fellowship Diploma. He also trained at Los Angeles for the placement of implants.

Steve is a mentor for the Faculty of General Dental Surgeons and has a strong commitment to post graduate training and education.

Socially, Steve enjoys flying being a qualified mircroflight pilot, sailing, skiing and keeping fit.

Steve has a very loyal patient base and many patients have remained with him since he started working in Solihull. He gets as much as a thrill today from his dentistry as he did when qualifying and finds the satisfaction of allowing people to change their life through the confidence that their teeth can give time as they describe a life changing experience. .

Dr James Cosgrove Hay qualified at Birmingham University in 1974. In 1985 he founded Manor Road Dental Practice which was acquired by Smiles Dental in 2008. Jim has a wealth of knowledge and experience in dentistry and is able to offer outstanding clinical excellence for a range of dental treatments including crowns, bridges, veneers and composite (white) fillings.

He has built up a loyal patient base due to his compassionate nature and high quality dentistry. The patient is never rushed and Jim takes care to use terminology that patients understand to remove the mystique out of dentistry. Jim will also provide you with a full range of treatment options and explain fully why treatment is necessary and what it involves.

In his free time Jim has a passion for classic cars, fine dining and spending time with his family. He looks forward to welcoming you to the practice.

Dr Simone Kelly Read More

Simone graduated from University Trinity College Dublin in 2011.

Post qualification she moved to Birmingham where she did her vocational year in a busy NHS practice. To date Simone has been working as a general dental practitioner in a busy, thriving practice in Leamington Spa where she has provided both NHS and private dental care.

Simone enjoys all aspect of dentistry and is committed to continually developing her professional skills through courses. Simone strives to provide a professional and high quality standard of dental care for all her patients.

Simone enjoys hiking and has ventured to the Brecon Beacons, Malvern Hills and is soon to conquer the Camino De Santiago trail in Spain.

Simone is eager to welcome new patients to Smiles Dental who can enjoy being treated to the highest standard in a friendly, warm environment.

Helen Jones Read More

EDH BA Dip DHE GDC No. 6091 Helen Jones has always had a love of dentistry and began dental nursing in her teens. After obtaining a BA(Hons) degree in Social Sciences with Psychology major she trained as a Dental Hygienist at Birmingham Dental Hospital and qualified with a diploma with merit in 2002 along with a BTEC in Oral Health Promotion and a City & Guilds certificate for Adult Teaching.

Helen has worked in private practice and mixed NHS since qualification and over the years has built good long term relationships with patients alongside Dentists and Nurses alike. Helen believes a good working practice comes from the skill base, trust, respect and camaraderie of the team providing the care and is pleased to say that at the Manor Road Dental Practice – Solihull we achieve this.

As a Hygienist Helen enjoys the challenge of obtaining good standards of oral hygiene and likes to tailor treatment to the individual and their needs. Working closely with the Dentist we can achieve this level of care. Manor Road Dental Practice – Solihull offers a practice environment where Helen is able to work to her fullest potential and provide quality care for her patients.

Helen continues her professional development and attend regular training to stay up-to-date and be able to provide current and relevant information to her patients.

Outside of work Helen is firstly a mother but also enjoy a busy social life. She is part of an amateur dramatics society and performs locally in musical productions. Helen loves all kinds of music and enjoy keeping fit with friends when she get the time to do so.

Sharon Tozer Read More

Sharon Tozer qualified as a Dental Hygienist at Birmingham Dental Hospital in 1989 and works at Manor Road Dental Practice – Solihull and at Solihull Hospital in the maxillofacial/orthodontic department.

Sharon gained a Further Education Teaching Certificate and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer working with undergraduate hygiene/ therapy students at Solihull Hospital where she is also a Link Trainer in Basic Life Support.

Sharon enjoys her work as a Hygienist and finds it is a rewarding profession to be in. She feels a great deal of job satisfaction in helping to achieve and maintain healthy oral care for her patients of whom she has many positive relationships with. Sharon enjoys working as a team with other clinicians and staff at the practice. One of my greatest achievements at the practice is the award of ‘Best Performing Hygienist of the year 2010/11′. Her trophy sits proudly on her surgery shelf at the practice.

Out of work Sharon is a keen performer both in singing and acting. She has performed in many shows including Gilbert & Sullivan, musical theatre and drama. Sharon has also taken part in numerous concerts to raise money for charities including Help for Heroes, Cancer Research and British Heart Foundation to name but a few. She quotes “I am thrilled to say that many of my patients from Manor Road Dental Practice – Solihull have supported performances that I have been in”.

Helen qualified as a Dental Nurse in Glasgow Dental Hospital 1975. She then went on to take her hygienist qualification at Birmingham Dental Hospital in 1976. Helens job is to promote and encourage good dental health to all walks of life. She has many years of varied experience in the dental profession and currently work in three practices as a Dental Hygienist.

At Manor Road Dental Practice – Solihull she has built a solid patient base and I finds her job very rewarding both professionally and socially as Manor Road Dental Practice – Solihull has a strong team spirit.

In her spare time she enjoy the simple pleasures in life; food, theatre, reading and retail therapy!

Jane is our senior nurse at Manor Road Dental Practice – Solihull. She has worked alongside Steve Taylor since 1993 and leads a happy and efficient team of nursing staff at the practice. Her expertise and knowledge of dentistry is invaluable and she has built up a wonderful rapport and friendship with both staff and patients alike.
Our valued nursing team consists of Jane, Sophia, Abi, Karen, Georgie and Hayley who all provide friendly and professional chairside support for our Dentists and Hygienists. All of our nurses are registered and qualified. Many are experienced implant nurses and all nurses are dedicated and passionate in their chosen profession attending regular training courses to ensure that their skills are continually updated.

Our reception is run in a warm and friendly manner whilst providing excellent customer service.

Hilary is our Practice Manager. In 2005 she started working with Dr Steven Taylor and was promoted to the Practice Manager in June 2010.

Over the years she has developed strong relationships with patients and staff. She is an enthusiastic and dedicated manager who is devoted to ensuring that patients at our practice receive a professional and efficient service in a happy and relaxed environment.

Our receptionists at the practice are Kelly and Steph. Kelly is our full time receptionist who is also an experienced dental nurse and patients regularly compliment her on her kind and caring nature. Steph has worked with James Hay for an amazing 34 years! She is a friendly and familiar face to all of our long standing patients along with welcoming new patients to the practice
